Hollywood heartthrobs Daniel Craig and Orlando Bloom are in the running to play tough cop George Carter in a film remake of the cult British series The Sweeney.

Ray Winstone will play the role of Detective Inspector Jack Regan in the return of one of the best-loved shows of the 70s.

The Bond star is among a host of A-list actors including Orlando Bloom and Ewan McGregor, who are in the frame to play the part of Regan’s sidekick George Carte.

The script has been written by director Nick Love and Ian Kennedy Martin, the creator of the original series that ran between 1970 and 1978.
