Addressing rallies in Konkan and Marathwada, Gandhi accused the PM of not keeping his promise of teaching a lesson to Pakistan and China. “During the Lok Sabha campaign, Modi said, make me PM and I’ll teach a lesson to China and Pakistan. But after he was elected as PM, he was busy chit chatting and swinging with the Chinese premier while we were being attacked in Ladakh. Even now, Pakistan is killing our soldiers but he has maintained silence,” Gandhi said.

In his eagerness to step up attack on the PM, the Cong VP addressed him as leader of opposition at a rally in Mahad. “An ‘opposition leader’ says nothing happened in the last 60 years. Their thinking is that only one man can take the country forward,’’ he said. Modi has been taking on the Congress in election campaigns saying those who ruled the country for 60 years are seeking an account of what he has done in 60 days.

Taking a jibe at Modi’s public relations skills, he added, "The only difference is that you had a CM who worked and didn’t know how to market, while the Gujarat CM only knew how to market."

Gandhi was speaking at Ausa in Latur district, a Congress bastion, which is under siege from BJP after the demise of senior leader Vilasrao Deshmukh. In the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP candidate from Latur won with over two lakh votes.

“Our PM wanted to go to America, so he gave in to companies which asked him free prices of medicines. So now a cancer medicine that you could get for Rs 8,000 will be available for Rs 1 lakh,” he said.
