Former Australian Davis Cup coach and tennis legend John Newcombe says that high-decibel Maria Sharapova needs to quieten down a bit on court at the Australian Open.
Newk, as he is known, claims the shrieking Sharapova's high-pitched wails and squeals on almost every shot - they get louder in the heat of battle - is technically illegal and should be stopped.
The respected television commentator labelled the tactic "legalised cheating" on Fox Sports.
He said that the Sharapova shout-outs prevent the opponent from hearing the ball come off the strings, ruining timing.
"I think it's illegal. If I was playing against someone who was doing it all the time, I'd ask for the referee and say the player has to stop."
"They're deliberately obstructing me from hearing the ball come off the strings."
