Keeping this thought in mind, a play titled Do You Really Love Me? is being staged by Dramatech, a theatre production formed in 1984 by the alumni of IIT Delhi. Since its inception, the group —comprising working professionals, has completed 36 productions. The play will be staged on February 16 and 17.

Written by Naushil Mehta, it is a dark comedy in English about loving and being loved. The two-act production is a combination of two short plays which highlight how hard it is to say these words to your partner, whether you are 17 or 70. Director Rahul Sachdeva says, “Love is probably the most universal emotion experienced by humans and yet there are many different dimensions to it. Our play is not mushy or overtly romantic. It explores love from various points of view and is targeted for a discerning, thinking audiences.”

As far as the plot is concerned, he says, “We’ve explored some of the funnier shades of love in the first act which deals with two old men — one a seasoned player, the other, a shy and hopeless bachelor.

Sharing his experience during the play, Vivek Srivastava, one of the lead actors in Act I says, “I play an adolescent trapped inside the body of a 70-year-old. The preparation for the role was a delightful challenge as in real life I’m practically mid-way between these two ages.”
