A 22-year-old woman was allegedly sexually abused in a moving car in Patna on Friday, but police did not record her statement and let her go after a short interrogation.
The woman is from Madhya Pradesh and works for a firm in the Bihar capital. She was found lying on the road early in the morning by a passerby, who informed the police.
But, the patrol party did not take her for medical examination. No statement was recorded and no FIR was filed.
Inspector general of police (CID – weaker sections) Arvind Pandey showcaused station house officer (SHO) of the Kankarbagh police station in southern Patna in this connection.
Pandey said he had also directed the SHO to send a woman police officer to the hostel, where the woman stays, and record her statement in a video camera.
He added Kankarbagh SHO Arun Kumar Gupta told him he could not personally go to the spot where the incident took place, as he was busy with some other work.
Rajnish Rai, an eyewitness, said, "Hearing her cries, I rushed out with my brother carrying lathis (sticks). But by the time we reached the spot, the vehicle escaped after abandoning the girl."
