Police said some villagers spotted an iron box floating in the Gurgaon canal and alerted the local police.
The police took out the box and found the body of a 30-year-old woman inside.
"The body bore injury marks on the neck and it seems that the victim had been strangulated to death and dumped in the canal," a police officer said.
The body has been kept in the mortuary of Badshah Khan hospital in Faridabad.
