On Friday, the woman, Arti Yadav, 22, of Beli colony in Allahabad decided not to take eveteasing lying down. It had been quite some time that a motorcycle-borne youth, Vivek Singh alias Johnny, of the neighbouring Fakeeraganj, would repeatedly tease her, virtually every time she stepped out of her house.

It was no different on Friday. Only, Yadav decided she had had enough.

As soon as Singh’s motorcycle approached Yadav in the Katra market, he passed a lewd comment and tried to flee. An alert Yadav, though, caught hold of the pillion rider’s shirt. This made the driver lose balance and fall, following which the two men ran away leaving behind the vehicle.

An enraged Yadav, a student of Allahabad University, first tried to damage the motorcycle by hitting it with bricks, then decided to set it ablaze. A youth from the crowd gave her a matchbox.

What’s more, a determined Yadav stayed back to see the vehicle burn down completely even as police arrived. Yadav’s brother, who rushed to the place, took her away.

And while a woman found her courage, a huge crowd looked on — when the youth were harassing her as also when she took them on.
