The victim, Brijesh, a resident of Ratol town in Baghpat district, was married to Praveen, a resident of Khimawati locality of Muradnagar in Ghaziabad in 2005. They had two sons, aged three and two, police said.

The complaint against Praveen and his family was filed Saturday by the victim's brother Naresh, who was informed of the twin murders by an anonymous caller. Naresh claimed that the caller told him how Brijesh and her two-year-old son were burnt alive by her husband and in-laws, police said.

Naresh also alleged that since the beginning of his sister's marriage, her husband and in-laws had been harassing her for dowry, police said.

The victims were secretly cremated in the local cremation ground, police said.

"We have registered a criminal case against five members of the family for killing the woman for dowry. They accused in the case are Brijesh's sisters-in-law Sushma and Pushpa, brothers-in-law Subhash and Pappu and her husband Praveen," Senior Superintendent of Police Akhil Kumar said.
