They have shot off a strongly-worded letter to the MCI bringing its attention to the doctors’ role of saving the rapists. They have demanded a probe into the matter and appropriate action against the guilty doctors.

In the letter, Madhu Garg of the All India Democratic Women’s Association and Prof Rooprekha Verma of Sanjhi Duniya, alleged: “On May 3, 2005, a panel of doctors drawn from Balrampur Hospital and Veerangana Avanti Bai Hospital reported that no injury was found on the private parts of the victim. They did not confirm rape. The report of the panel of doctors does not mention any other bodily injury either. We had seen the girl soon after the incident and both print and electronic media showed injuries on her body. The girl was bleeding profusely and was in a bad shape. Her hands and body bore marks of burning and scratching.”

The letter further reads, “We wonder why the doctors have not recorded the injuries which were seen by many others at that time. Was this due to the pressure from the influential and politically well connected families to which the culprits belonged?”
