ND Tiwari, who resigned as Andhra Pradesh Governor on Saturday after a Telugu TV channel aired footage purportedly showing him having a romp with three women, said he was innocent and had been “framed”.
“I will stay in Dehradun for the next two days,” said the grim-looking 86-year-old Congress leader and former chief minister of Uttarakhand on his arrival in Dehradun on Monday.
Tiwari said several people, including pro-Telangana activists, visited the Raj Bhavan and anyone “not satisfied with him must have done this (to tarnish my image)”. He demanded a probe into what he described as a frame-up.
Political observers have said the alleged sex scandal is likely to end Tiwari’s political career but the ex-governor said he would remain in active politics.
Tiwari, who tendered his resignation to the President, citing “health problems, said he would continue to work for the betterment of Uttarahkand.
Tiwari has also been chief minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice in his long political career.
Many state party leaders, who were in Dehradun for the Congress’s 125th anniversary celebrations, kept a safe distance from
Tiwari as he disembarked at the city’s Jolly Grant Airport.
