WITH AN aim of helping the faculty members of leading technical institutes of the region and also upgrading the knowledge base of the industry professionals, the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) is going to organise a workshop on 'Circuit Simulation using SPICE' from April 8.

The three-day event will help the participants learn the full potential of some of the most popular circuit simulation packages available in the country today and also help them get a hands-on training of some of the advanced features of designing using these packages.
"The workshop is being organised under the World Bank backed Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of Government of India which is designed for achieving the academic excellence of the technical education in the country. MNNIT is a lead institute in this project and is expected to participate with the network institutions in this mission," informed Dr RK Singh, the co-ordinator of the workshop.
He said that MNNIT's Department of Electrical Engineering has acquired some of the latest circuit simulation packages called MultiSim, UltiBoard and MultiHDL under the TEQIP project and the students of the institute are presently using this package in their undergraduate and postgraduate studies under the guidance of experts of the Electrical Engineering department.
"A number of UG/PG laboratory courses can be based on these SPICE-based simulation packages.
Keeping this in view, this workshop aims to provide the participants an understanding of the simulation software MultiSim, UltiBoard and MultiHDL," Dr Singh added.
He said that the workshop would also provide the participants an opportunity to discuss the classical and open experiments based on SPICE for UG/PG laboratory teaching besides helping in creating a draft for a Laboratory Manual for this lab.
"We will also take the opportunity to discuss the advanced features of the design with simulation package," he added.
Dr Singh said that this workshop has been planned for 30 delegates, primarily from network institutes of MNNIT under TEQIP project.
"However, MNNIT welcomes participation from industries as well as other academic and research institutions.
The participants from industry and teaching faculty will be provided boarding on payment basis in the institute's Executive Development Centre or the Guest House on a shared basis. Participants will also be provided the registration kit and a detail of the proceedings of the Workshop," Dr Singh said.
The last date for the submission of the completed application/registration form, available at the MNNIT website, is March 25.
