Yash Airways bags airstrips maintenance contract

INDORE-BASED Yash Airways Flying Club has been awarded the contract to maintain airstrips in Ujjain and Ratlam. The contract, signed a fortnight ago, has brought in private participation in the State Government?s ambitious plan to promote tourism in the State.

Director Aviation Capt V P Singh confirmed the agreement. In 10 other districts the government is carrying out the maintenance and up-gradation task.

Yash Airways Flying Club beat the MP Flying Club Ltd in grabbing the contract. The MP Flying Club had raised objection to that citing “some very obvious discrepancies in the tenders submitted by the three bidders.”

Another grouse was over the pre-requisite to show Rs 2.5 crore in bank as security deposit. As MP Flying Club operates on no profit no loss basis it was not possible for the club to participate in the bidding. Secretary of the flying club, Milind Mahajan, wrote to the Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni to “examine the credentials of all the three bidders thoroughly concerning the scope of the tender by exercising your authority.”

However, the government sources said that contract was awarded to highest bidder and all the rules were strictly adhered to in the process.

The sources said the Director General, Civil Aviation, examined the proposal of the Yash Flying Club. There was no scope for deviation from the strict guidelines on aviation.
