Yeh hai Mumbai, meri jaan!

I grew up in Mumbai but am settled in Trivandrum now after my wedding. My husband and I were visiting my parents in May. One Sunday, my husband took a cab to Dadar station. On reaching the station he called up saying he could not find his wallet and asked me to block his credit/debit cards. It was nothing short of a miracle when, the taxi-driver came knocking at our door and handed us the wallet. It is true the city is plagued with pollution, crowd, traffic-jams, etc. but it has a warm heart somewhere.

Those who had written claiming Mumbai to be the rudest city need to reconsider their statements. I would like to share with you a true incident that took place less than a month ago in Mumbai.

I grew up in Mumbai and am settled in Trivandrum for the past six months after my wedding. My husband and I were visiting my parents in May. I stay at Dadar and one Sunday morning, my husband took a cab to Dadar station to meet a cousin. He reached the station saying he could not find his wallet and asked me to immediately call up various banks and block his credit/debit cards. He rushed back home and we were busy contacting the different call centres.

It was nothing short of a miracle when after half an hour, the taxi-driver came knocking at our door and handed us the wallet. He said he was almost nearing Worli when suddenly he found the wallet lying in the taxi. He then traced back his route, reached our building gate, got in touch with the watchman regarding our whereabouts and reached our home.

It is true that the city is plagued with pollution, crowd, traffic-jams, etc. But it has a warm heart somewhere and this is what makes it stand out. This incident only speaks volumes of every Mumbaikars’ motto “Live and let live”.
