The face of Lucknow’s city bus service is in for transformation. The UP State Road Transport Corporation is all set to introduce major changes in its city bus service launched a few months ago in a bid to increase its buses’ occupancy and provide better facilities to the commuters.

As an incentive, the corporation has planned introduction of a lucky draw system in its city buses. The passengers would be required to drop the counterfoil of a ticket in a drop-box. The corporation, will every month, hold a lucky draw. The lucky winners will be entitled to prizes such as movie tickets, dinner coupons, and the like. A tie-up will also be made with some brand managers for big prizes.

In another major decision to be implemented very soon, the corporation will merge all the satellite towns in the State Capital as far as city bus service is concerned. In other words, the existing city bus service will be extended upto the satellite towns such as Barabanki, Banthara, Mohan lalganj, Itaunja, and Gosaiganj. For this, the corporation is also purchasing 100 more buses next month. Though the private operators may have some objection, the proposed move will benefit the commuters in as much as they will get an integrated and direct bus service between Lucknow and a satellite town instead of their traveling piece meal.

UPSRTC MD, Umesh Sinha claimed the face of the Lucknow City bus service would change once the proposals were executed. He said there was also a proposal to introduce e-ticketing in city buses. Under this scheme, the conductors will carry a hand-held computer with them which will generate tickets on for the passengers.
