A youth, hit by a teargas shell during protests at Barzullah on Monday, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Srinagar, sparking off fresh protests in the Valley for the fourth consecutive day.

A youth, hit by a teargas shell during protests at Barzullah on Monday, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Srinagar, sparking off fresh protests in the Valley for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday.

Nissar Ahmad Dar, who was injured while protesting against the death of two women in Shopian last week, died in Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar this morning, police said.

The death of Nissar further aggravated the situation in the strike-hit Valley as natives of his home place and adjoining areas staged protest demonstrations.

Raising slogans against police, hundreds of men, women and children came out to the streets at Barzullah, Batmaloo, Natipora, Rambagh and adjoining areas, officials said.

Normal life across the Valley continued to be paralysed for the fourth consecutive day today as government offices, educational institutions, banks, courts remained closed.

Authorities have deployed thousands of Police and paramilitary personnel across the Valley as the strike, called by chairman of hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani entered its fourth day today.
