Deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh on Saturday said the students are the most important stakeholders of the state's future and advised them to take active interest in its development.

Singh after inaugurating 'Sammelan-2015,' a student festival at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) on Saturday, appreciated the MIET management, faculty and students for initiating novel programme and described the MIET as a role model for private institutions in the state.

Responding to the demands regarding better road connectivity and uninterrupted power supply to the college, Singh assured the college authorities that every effort will be made to provide the same.

The inaugural ceremony was kick-started by a rocking performance by the MIET music club. A special play "The Dumb Wife" in association with "Natrang" was staged on the occasion.

Later more than 2,500 students participated in varied technical, literary and management related events throughout the day. The highlight was the sunburn campus which was organised for the first time in J&K. Sunburn is a legendary electronic dance music festival which was initiated in Goa and is now going across the country through the Sunburn campus events.

The second day of 'Sammelan' will be devoted to cultural items with inter-college song and dance competitions and the fashion show expected to be other big draws.
