In his bid to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, Deepak Gupta of Indore on Wednesday began his attempt to sing non-stop for 101 hours in Coimbatore.
The current record of marathon singing mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records is being held by a German who sang non-stop for 54-hours.
Brimming with confidence, 28-year-old Deepak, a music arranger for the famous child singer, Palak Muchhal, started off with old Hindi melodies sung by late Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar and also a few Tamil film songs.
The continuous singing is being video-recorded and would be handed over to representatives of Guinness Book of World Records, who would make a surprise visit to the venue at Gujarati Samaj in Coimbatore, sources said.
"I have already sung non-stop for 18 hours," he told earlier and added that he wanted to sing continuously for 125 hours in Coimbatore.
The event is scheduled to end on November 20. The city Corporation Mayor, R Venkatachalam inaugurated the event.
