Zaheera was brought from Byculla jail, where she is serving a one year sentence imposed on her by the Supreme Court for committing contempt.

Zaheera's mother Sahrunissa, sister Sahira Bano and brother Nasibullah also appeared before the court in response to a judicial directive to record their plea.

The court had earlier handed over a summary of charges to Zaheera and others asking them to file a reply.

Defence lawyer Umesh Deshpande said that he would seek time to defer the recording of the plea of Zaheera and others as they were still studying the charges proposed by the court against them for giving false evidence.
