Indore: GIS boost for hotel industry

It is generally a slow season for hotel industry but they stand to gain the most from an increase in business travel in the October when the city will host the Global Investors Summit.

October is usually a slow month for the hotel industry in Indore, but things are expected be different this time around. Hotels stand to gain the most from an increase in business travel in the first week of October when the city will host the Global Investors Summit.

The state government has also booked 1,400 rooms in premium hotels across the city for the delegates attending the three-day event. However, hoteliers expect an increase in room occupancy even before and after the event.

"The investors meet will definitely benefit the hotels in the city as October is a lean month with room occupancy levels at 45% to 50%," Indore Hotels Association president Sumit Suri told HT.

During the marriage season, which starts from November, the room occupancy levels shoot up to 80%. While Suri did not want to speculate on the expected room occupancy in first week of October, he indicated that it would be high.

However, the hotels do not offer any discounts during the lean months so there would be no change in the tariff.

The government has also blocked 140 rooms in Sayaji Hotel and about 100 rooms in hotel Fortune Landmark. Similarly, several rooms have been blocked in other popular hotels.

The state government has sent over 9,000 invites to industrialists, trade representatives, foreign delegates and other eminent people for the Global Investors Summit scheduled to be held from October 8-10.

At least 1,000 delegates, 70 leading industrialists of the country, and members from 11 partner countries including Canada, UK, Australia, Japan, Austria, Mexico and South Africa will attend the mega event.

Meanwhile, people planning to visit Indore during this period are unlikely to find any rooms in the popular hotels.

A visit to Radisson Indore website confirms this as you try to book a room online and are greeted with a message, "We’re sorry, there are no rooms available on your requested dates. Please amend your dates or select another hotel."
