Indore: IDA mulls three kilometer elevated corridor

The IDA, after consultation with board members recently, had appointed a consultant to conduct a detailed feasibility survey and traffic flow survey between LIG and Shivaji Vatika squares, before preparing a draft plan for the project.

IDA chairman Shankar Lalwani said, "With construction of BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System), the width of AB Road is reduced by half (more than half in some places), leaving very narrow road for motor vehicles."

This was discussed with the board members, and everyone gave their consent for construction of an elevated corridor between LIG and Shivaji Vatika squares, he added.

An IDA official said, after construction of BRTS corridor, the 200-feet wide AB Road is reduced to 100 feet (50 feet on either sides). At many places between LIG and Shivaji Vatika squares, the road is only 16 - 18 feet wide, forming bottlenecks.

If approved, the three kilometer elevated corridor project will be a multi-million affair, for which IDA will have to seek financial help from the state government.

The commuters can make use of the elevated corridor to avoid busy Industry House junction, Guitar junction, Palasia square, Geeta Bhawan and Shivaji Vatika intersections.
