Tuesday brought cheer to the thousands of undergraduate (UG) students seeking admission to the postgraduate (PG) courses, but missed the deadline for online registration.
The department of higher education (DHE) on Tuesday re-started its online link for registration to the PG admissions. The link will remain open till July 15.
Earlier, the online registration window for PG admissions was shut on June 23, while admissions to UG courses closed on June 18. Thousands of UG students across the state missed to register themselves in the absence of their final semester results, as most of the state universities declared their sixth semester results after June 23.
The DHE move comes after several students from across the state requested the department to allow them to register online for the PG courses. Students claimed that they failed to register themselves in the absence of their final semester results.
The students had earlier questioned the DHE move to allow students to register themselves on the basis of aggregate percentage of their marks in first five semesters.
"In many cases, students score more or less marks in the final semester. In case they score better marks (in the last semester), their merit position improves and vice-versa. We appreciate the DHE's decision, which is in favour of the students, but we can't ascertain a clear situation on the basis of aggregate percentage of marks in first five semesters," said one of the UG students.

{{/usCountry}}"The picture became clear only after DAVV and other universities in the state declared final results between June 27 and 30," the student added.
Though the DHE decision has brought relief for many students, but many science and commerce students, who wanted to get admission in top colleges like Government Holkar Science College and Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee Governments Arts and Commerce College (GACC), failed to get admission in the colleges, as seats in the colleges were already filled.
Government Holkar Science College always remains on top of the preference list for the science students, but all 2,000 seats in various UP course at the college were filled, leaving no scope for others.
Similarly, at Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Arts and Commerce College, about 684 students have already taken admission in B.Com course.
