Reacting sharply over the attack on party workers, MP Congress president Arun Yadav on Friday accused the BJP of trying to hijack municipal elections by instigating violence.

BJP is using violence as tool for hijacking democratic election process and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) is backing them in their malafide acts, accused Yadav.

On Thursday evening workers of BJP and Congress parties clashed in Chattripura area which left 11 injured from both the camps, including the contesting candidates, Yogesh Gender (Congress) and Shankar Yadav (BJP) from ward no. 69.

The Congress party’s state president was in Indore on Friday to take a note of the situation and meet the injured party workers.

Yadav accused chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s patronage behind the outrage on their party workers across the state. He said, “BJP has been using divisive methods to win the elections, as they fear emergence of Congress.”

Sadly, the administrative machinery and police is also working in tandem with ruling party, he alleged, pointing that their party workers were beaten up inside Chattripura police station in front of thana in-charge. But the police didn’t bother to stop the brawl.

There are many violence-prone areas in Indore where police should ideally be active and instil confidence among voters, but, they are guarding anti-socials instead, Yadav said.

Thursday’s violence at Chattripura was a planned one by BJP workers; timing of the incident taking place just a day before the elections shows divisive tactics employed by BJP to disturb peace and terrorise people, he added.

We will lodge a complaint about the incident with the Election Commission, divisional commissioner and IGP, he said.
