MP: Budget development-oriented, says BJP; Congress, others slam

While the ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh lauded the first full-fledged budget presented by the BJP-led NDA government at Centre on Saturday calling it development and people-oriented, opposition parties Congress and Aam Aadmi Party termed the budget as anti-poor and inflationary.

The chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has called the budget balanced, development and people-oriented one saying that it would strengthen the states financially.

The CM said that the increase in states’ share to 42% would mean that states would get more untied funds.

Till now, the union government pushed schemes upon the states and they had to spend funds as contribution towards these schemes.

"For the first time after independence, the states have got financial autonomy," he said.

BJP state president Nandkumar Singh Chauhan said that the budget would cause production revolution that would lead to employment generation and is development oriented.

"The budget is good news for the youth, a security cover for girls and overall would herald safe and secure future for the people of the country."

"A hike in service tax would prove detrimental for the middle and the poor class people and especially the salaried section," Yadav said.

MP secretary of Aam Aadmi Party, Akshay Hunka called the budget anti-poor and pro-corporate houses. "There is nothing positive for the common people in the budget. It is totally disappointing," he said.
