A day after Peshawar attack that sent shock waves throughout the globe, schools in the city stood united against the terrorist strike. A number of schools of the city joined the nation in condoling the death of innocent students by observing a two-minute silence.

“It is a brutal and unkind act against humanity. It is intolerable to target innocent children. Whatever happened is extremely condemnable,” said Prakash Chaudhary, principal of Prestige Public School.

Seeking participation of children and the entire school management in this programme, the faculty also prayed for the families of the innocent children.

“Malala Yousafzai received Nobel Peace prize for her courage. The issue of women education and the extremist forces was being discussed and then this unfortunate incident. It is heartbreaking because the victims were children who had no knowledge of the world’s affairs,” said Sister Preity Thomas, principal, St. Raphael’s Higher Secondary School. “Our prayers are with them,” she added.

Many schools in the city were not able to hold condolence meet because of ongoing pre-board exams. Vice principal of Delhi Public School, Sunila Baja, condemned the attack.

Choithram School, north campus, will conduct condolence prayers on Thursday. Vice principal Madhvi Verma expressed grief and anger towards the attack on young schoolchildren. “It is the deadliest and most brutal kind of act. Targeting young children for selfish motives is inhuman and against all principles of humanity; we pray for the families of sufferers,” said Verma.

While educational institutions were under shock, some youth organisations also carried out candle vigils in the city. Neerav Hetawal, member of a youth-oriented forum said, “We stand strong against terrorism. We understand that the children and youngsters can change the society. It is for this reason that our organisation, which has youngsters in the age group of 16-25, will be taking out this rally.”
