Speaker discusses Indore-Manmad project with railway minister Prabhu

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan met railway minister Suresh Prabhu at her chamber in the Parliament to discuss early implementation of Indore-Manmad railway line project.

Member of Parliament from Indore and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan met railway minister Suresh Prabhu and members of Parliament from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra at her chamber in the Parliament on Monday to discuss early implementation of the Indore-Manmad railway line project.

Mahajan stressed for early implementation of the project that has been stuck till now mainly due to financial reasons. The railway ministry had sanctioned the project in March 2013.

Mahajan highlighted the fact that the project will reduce the travel distance and also help the industries in the region. The new railway line will also put the backward and tribal belts in both the states on the railway map.

Railway minister Suresh Prabhu assured the Speaker that railways will spend the maximum amount on the project and soon discuss the memorandum of understanding (MoU) of the project with the chief ministers of both the states.

As per terms and conditions announced earlier, the Union government will bear 50% of the project cost while the governments of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra will contribute 25% each.

The project is crucial from the industry point of view as it will make transportation of goods between Indore and Mumbai cheaper and also reduce the travel time.
