True story: Indore ADM's book talks about inequality, injustice

A prolific writer and a member in the administrative field of the government, Kailash Wankhede's collection of short stories titled 'Satyapan' is a work of literature, which speaks volumes for itself.

Beautifully written in plain, lucid Hindi, the stories in Satyapan bring the issues of social injustice and inequality to light. Every story of Satyapan weaves around the characters and shows them challenging the system and its rules.

Not written particularly in a revolting manner, the theme of 'Satyapan', according to Wankhede, is to give out little messages to the society, which are based on observations and experiences which Wankhede had in his career.

"I had this experience when I had to get my photo identification to be done. The kind of experience which I had was so different and thought provoking that it made me write about it. Likewise, every story is inspired with real life in some way or another," said Wankhede.

As the appreciation for his work pours in, Wankhede, a 1995 batch of state services officer, said: "I used to write when I was in college. Often some short pieces written by me would get featured in newspapers. It was only a few years back that I felt that I should pursue it seriously. It was then that ‘Satyapan’ came into existence."

Ask him about his plans for the future, and he is quick to respond, "I will continue to write on the same theme and lines of Satyapan. But I am working on a novel, which will come maybe next year."
