Two goons attack MP BJP leader with acid

Two unidentified men entered the house of a Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party leader and attacked him with acid at his Ujjain residence, injuring him and his family members in the wake, police said on Tuesday.

It is reported to be the first case of its kind in the state in which a political leader had been attacked with acid.So far, such attacks were reported from jilted lovers in vengeance.

The police, however, are investigating the reason of the incident which took place on Monday night.

The leader is the general secretary of the Ujjain unit of the party, Murlidhar Kabra, 50, who was rushed to the district hospital soon after the attack where he and his wife Anita,40, were admitted to the intensive care unit and his mother Sharda,70, and daughter Shagun, discharged after first aid.

The acid attack has damaged the cornea of Murlidhar’s eye. He was immediately referred to Indore for advanced treatment, Dr Pradeep Vyas of the district hospital said. Later, he was shifted to a private hospital in Ujjain for further treatment.

Quoting Anita’s statement, the police said the men came on a bike, parked it outside and expressed their desire to meet the leader. Anita let them into the room where Murlidhar came out to meet them, Anita kept standing by his side and Shardabai and Shagun were seated on a sofa.

As soon as the leader came near, one of the assailants poured acid on him and the family and scooted off the scene.

Hearing the commotion from, the neighbours came out and rushed them to the district hospital.

Anita, however, told the police that she was not able to identify the attackers as they had their faced covered in mufflers.
