The bodies bear injury marks were found at the campus of the Sant Nirankari Satsang Bhawan on Haridwar Bypass Road, which falls under the Nehru colony police station area. Pushpak Jyoti, deputy inspector general of police (DIG) of Garhwal range, and Nivedita Kukreti Kumar, senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Dehradun, rushed to the spot upon receiving the information.

The bodies were identified as that of Kamal, 45, from Rudraprayag district and Sonu Kumar (22) from Dehradun. Kamal was a security guard at the devotional centre while Sonu, a polytechnic student, was a sewadar (volunteer) who frequently visited the centre.

Suspecting foul play, family member of Sonu created ruckus even as the police tried to placate them.

The police, which rushed in its forensic team, said the cause of death would be known after post mortem. “During preliminary investigation, we have found tyre marks on the bodies as well as on the site, but we will be able to say (anything) conclusively only after the post mortem (report) comes in,” Jyoti told HT. “We are going through all angles to solve the case.”

Prior to the Friday’s incident, the body of the engineer was found in the city close to the Clock Tower on November 27. The Dehradun police said the deceased - identified as 27-year-old Yatin Verma from Bageshwar district – had committed suicide in his hotel room and that his body was disposed of at a nearby spot by the hotel staff.
