Former Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) chairman Habeeb Khan Gauran was granted conditional bail by the chief metropolitan magistrate after he surrendered in a local court on Tuesday.
Gauran, an accused in the Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) pre-examination 2013 paper leak case, surrendered in the morning, complying with the Supreme Court’s order of January 22 that he should turn himself in before a court within two weeks.
Immediately after his surrender, Gauran applied for a bail, which was granted by the court of chief metropolitan magistrate. However, it was not before officials of the special operations group (SOG) looking into the case, opposed Gauran’s bail and sought his custody for interrogation.
The court granted bail to Gauran on the condition that he will not leave the country without the court’s permission. Secondly, he will appear before the SOG as and when required by the investigating agency and cooperate in the investigation. Thirdly, he will not influence the witnesses in the case.
Gauran quit as RPSC chairman in September last year in the wake of RAS-2013 paper leak.
The RAS paper was leaked by a gang from a printing press and it was revealed during the investigation that Gauran too had visited the press and noted down the questions of Rajasthan Judicial Services paper last year.
After a sessions court and the Rajasthan high court dismissed his anticipatory bail, Gauran had approached the Supreme Court, which on January 22 asked him to surrender within two weeks and seek bail.
