“I am happy that my son gave life to four persons by donating his heart, liver and two kidneys. For me Raju is alive as his heart is beating in Suraj Bhan’s body now,” said Meera Devi, Raju’s mother.
Raju, 18, had met with an accident on August 1 and was declared brain dead by doctors of Mahatma Gandhi hospital in Jaipur. On August 2, Raju’s heart was transplanted to Suraj Bhan, 32, a resident of Hanumangarh, in the hospital and he is doing fine now. This was Rajasthan’s first cadaver heart transplant done by Dr Murtaza Ahmad Chisti, the chief consultant cardiac surgery.
On the eve of the World Organ Donation Day, the Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences and Technology organised a function on the WHO theme ‘Give Thanks, Give Life’ on Wednesday at a city hotel, where organ donors, recipients and their families appealed people to come forward to donate organs.
Mukh Ram, brother of Suraj Bhan, said, “After the heart transplant my brother is healthy and we are grateful to the parents of Raju who agreed for organ donation and my brother got a new lease of life.”
Similarly, Kalyan Sahai Sharma’s 7-year-old son Mohit of Alwar district was declared brain dead after an accident. “Doctors told to donate the organs, and after discussing with my brother, I agreed. Mohit’s two kidneys were transplanted to Laxman Singh (51), a driver, in January this year,” Kalyan said. Singh thanked Kalyan on the occasion.

Only awareness has to be created towards organ donation and soon there would be a large number of people donating their organs, which will give life to many others.”
