The assembly by-poll result of Surajgarh seat has served as a double blow to former health minister Digamber Singh who recently lost the assembly election from Deeg-Kumher seat in December last year. Singh, considered close to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje since the previous BJP government, had insisted on contesting the by-election from Surajgarh on the premise that the seat was Jat dominated and he would win from there.

However, the second consecutive loss has put a question mark on his political career, at least for next couple of years. After his defeat in December assembly polls, there were chances of him getting a political appointment in some commission or board but now those chances also diminished.

Singh, a prominent Jat leader of Bharatpur area, had lost to Congress’ Vishvendra Singh with a margin of over 11,000 votes in the assembly polls and has now lost to Congress candidate Shrawan Kumar with 3,270 votes from Surajgarh.

“Victory and loss are part of the political elections but consecutive loss is likely to dent political career of doctor sahib (Singh). His chances were already dimmed as he was considered an outsider in Surajgarh and independent candidate Neeta Yadav also made dent in his votes,” said a senior party leader who sought anonymity.
