Social activist Kavita Srivastava's house was raided on Monday by a police team on the lookout for a person allegedly involved in Maoist activities in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh.
The team comprised policemen from Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
This drew a sharp reaction from human rights activists, who condemned the action as "illegitimate".
Srivastava, who is a member of the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), lashed out at the state government for "stifling dissent".
"I am being targeted because I support the struggle for human rights in Chhattisgarh," said Srivastava, who is also a petitioner in the Right to Food case before the Supreme Court.
"The PUCL has regularly been highlighting excesses by the police and government. In the Gopalgarh incident (communal riots) too we exposed the police," Srivastava told reporters.
Srivastava said the police harassed her octogenarian father, who is a heart patient and her domestic helps.
"About 60 policemen, led by deputy superintendent of police Rajendra Singh Shekhawat, arrived at my house at around 6.30am. I was not at home. But they found nothing," Srivastava said.
"They said they had the information that some Naxal was staying in my house. I do not know any Naxalite or Maoist," said Srivastava.

Superintendent of police (east) Mahendra Chaudhary said the police had followed all procedures.
"There was an arrest warrant from a Chhattisgarh court and a search warrant from a Jaipur court."
