Hoping to repeat the success of last assembly elections, chief minister Vasundhara Raje will begin her Suraj Gaurav Yatra from Charbhuja temple in Rajsamand district on August 1.
In 2003 and 2013, Raje had launched her statewide yatras from Charbhuja, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and both times the BJP won with overwhelming majority overthrowing the Congress government of chief minister Ashok Gehlot.
In 2003, after the Parivartan Yatra, BJP won 120 seats, while Congress won 56. In 2013, after the Suraj Sankalp yatra, the BJP won an unprecedented 163 seats in the assembly elections, reducing the Congress to just 21 seats. Now, when the BJP government facing strong anti-incumbency in the state, Raje is again turning to Charbhuja, hoping for divine intervention.
This time BJP national president Amit Shah is also expected to be present at the start of the yatra. In neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, where assembly elections are also due, Shah had flagged off CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s Jan Ashirvad yatra from Ujjain on July 14. Raje will travel through the state for 45 days, interacting with the voters and highlighting the achievements of her government. Higher education minister and Rajsamand MLA Kiran Maheshwari said the party is enthused about the yatra and preparations are in full swing.
Rajsamand district Collector Anandhi, superintendent of police Manoj Kumar and other administration officials are busy preparing for the chief minister’s tour programme. The officials checked the helipad that is being constructed at a government school in Jheelwada as well as the route from the temple to the venue of the public meeting and parking facility at the venue. Raje will arrive at the helipad and drive for darshan to the Charbhuja temple. A road is being constructed from the temple to the venue, where a waterproof tent will be put up at the site of the public meeting.
