Meanwhile, representatives of Resident Doctors Associations had talks with health secretary SP Singh at secretariat on Friday. The resident doctors demanded the main culprit — who beat up a resident doctor in New Medical College Hospital in Kota — be arrested, a senior faculty of the department concerned stationed round-the-clock for the emergency services and to set up police check posts in the hospitals for the protection of doctors, one of the representatives told HT.

With the arrest of the main accused Naresh Mewara on Thursday night, a demand of the doctors has already been met. As far as other two demands are concerned, the government agreed on deputing senior faculty members of the department concerned in the emergency round-the-clock along with the resident doctors. However, the doctors and the administration could not reach consensus in regard to setting up police check posts in the hospitals.

The resident doctors have refused to call off the strike till this demand is agreed upon.

Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors (JARD) president Dr Rajvendra Choudhary said, “Our two demands have been met. The main culprit has been arrested. On deployment of a senior faculty in emergency department, the officials have informed that the state government itself is planning to set up ‘emergency service’ as a separate unit, therefore this demand would be implemented before December 13.”
