A guard of the regional transport office (RTO) was killed after he was hit by a speeding truck at Balicha village on the National Highway 8, around 12 km from Udaipur district, on Saturday morning.

According to the Goverdhan Vilas police, a patrolling team of the RTO was carrying out random checking of vehicles moving on the National Highway 8 (Udaipur-Ahmedabad highway) at around 7am.

Guard Ranveer Singh, a member of the RTO patrolling team, saw a truck coming and waved at the driver to stop. “But instead of stopping, the truck driver increased the speed of the vehicle and ran over Singh and injured some others,” the police said.

The truck driver stopped the vehicle at some distance and fled the scene, they added.

Passers-by informed the Goverdhan Vilas police about the incident, following which a police team, led by the SHO, Ravindra Singh Charan, reached the spot and rushed the injured to MB hospital.

Singh’s body was kept in the hospital mortuary. “The police have seized the truck, registered a case against the truck driver and launched a hunt for him,” said Charan.
