Two cows died allegedly after being stuck in a water-logged transit camp in Bharatpur on Sunday. Social workers had rescued the animals from the camp, run by the municipal corporation, and sent them to a veterinary hospital. The animals, however, died later.
Rahul Maderna, an animal lover, with his colleagues reached the camp and rescued the cows. They called a vehicle from Apna Ghar and rushed them to the veterinary hospital.
“We had informed the municipal corporation officials about the critical condition of the cows, but the officials didn’t try to provide relief. Cows are dying at the transit camp and the municipal corporation has failed to save them,” said Maderna.
Mayor of the Bharatpur municipal corporation, Shiv Singh Bhont, said that a number of areas in the city have been facing the problem of waterlogging. “We are trying to solve the waterlogging issue at the transit camp. I will ask the corporation officials to take action,” said Bhont.
The transit camp, built by the animal husbandry department, was inaugurated by health minister Kalicharan Saraf in June 2017. The shelter, near Numaish ground, is for housing stray bovines before they are transferred to different cow shelters.
There are 13 registered cow shelters in the district and they have been waiting for government subsidy for last 12 months to feed the bovines. Most cow shelters are overcrowded.
