He was there to live his dream on Thursday the new inspector of New Town police station for a day.
Meet Suraj Binbanshi, a 7year-old suffering from lymphoblastic leukaemia and being treated at Saroj Gupta Cancer Center and Research Institute (Thakurpukur) in Kolkata.
He is a resident of Chapdani in Hooghly district and his father is a worker in a jute mill.
Suraj expressed his wish to be an inspector of police for a day when a volunteer of an organisation called Make-A-Wish Foundation of Kolkata division approached him at the hospital.
On Thursday afternoon, dressed as a police officer, Suraj walked into New Town police station around 3.30pm. He was escorted by officer-in-charge of the police station AB Dastidar and additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) airport Santosh Nimbalkar.
Soon after entering the police station he took the chair of the officer-in-charge of the station. Other officers of the police station showed him how he can monitor movements of various places within the police station with the help of CCTV cameras.
He also checked out the arms — a revolver, a 9mm pistol and a rifle. With the revolver in his hand Suraj said, “I always wanted to be a police inspector so that I could catch dacoits.” He pressed the trigger of a gun (unloaded) as photographers jostled to capture the moment. Suraj enjoyed every moment and his full concentration was on the arms that were kept in front of him.

{{/usCountry}}He said he loved the experience when ADCP asked him how he felt becoming an inspector. The commissioner of Bidhannagar Commissionerate Rajiv Kumar agreed immediately to the proposal made by the foundation.
All police officers then gave a salute to the new inspector. Then the youngest inspector visited the lock-up at the police station. The police had put three to four youths in the lock up (dummy criminals). Suraj told the criminals that he would set them free if they promise that they would become good citizens. He also asked them to follow the path shown by Gandhiji.
