Forcible enforcement of bandh will not be allowed: Mamata

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee today warned that her government would not allow forcible enforcement of the bandh tomorrow called by the CPI (M).

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday warned that her government would not allow forcible enforcement of the bandh on Thursday called by the CPI(M).

Stating that a bandh served no purpose, Banerjee told reporters, "We will not allow bandh forcibly."

She said that taking advantage of the diesel price hike, the prices of some commodities were sought to be increased and a bandh would further aggravate the situation.

Banerjee said that bandhs led to economic loss and ruined the state. "I do not believe in the politics of bandh."

She said that offices would remain open on Thursday and state-run buses and trams would be on the roads.

She alleged that state was bankrupted by the previous Left Front government by leaving a debt burden of Rs 2.3 lakh crore.
