As Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee admitted to faulty planning behind the Left Front's electoral defeat, the Congress Tuesday said the ruling alliance had lost the "credibility" to rule the state.
"The Left Front has lost all credibility to rule. It should go. It is the direction of the people who have rejected the Left Front in successive elections since the 2008 panchayat elections," WBPCC vice president Manas Bhuniya said a press conference here.
To Bhattacharjee's announcement yesterday on progress made in industrialisation, Bhuniya said growth of industry in the state had come to a halt after the Nandigram and Singur fiascoes.
Pointing out that West Bengal had slipped to sixth position from second in industrial growth since 1977, Bhuniya said while over 50,000 small, medium and big industries had shut during Left Front rule, the number of registered unemployed stood at one crore, which was highest in India.
Similarly, in literacy rate, from being second to Kerala before the Left Front came to power, the state had gone down to the 13th position.
Bhuniya said that National Sample Survey Organisation in its 62nd round of survey had said that 9.7 per cent of the population in rural areas did not get a square meal for three months in a year.
