Speaking at a poll campaign at Salt Lake, Banerjee asked the voters of the area to remain alert against rigging and booth capturing by the Marxists.

As the May 30 civil poll date draws near, all political parties have revved up campaigns. With the threat of cyclone Laila gone, leaders of all major political parties are out seeking the electorate's favour.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, his wife Mira Bhattacharjee, CPI-M leaders like Sitaram Yechury, Biman Bose, AICC secretary Shakeel-uz-Zaman Ansari, BJP leader Smriti Irani apart from Trinamool Congress chief Mamata banerjee held rallies in Kolkata and surrounding areas.

Ansari was confident of his party's success in civic polls. He said the failure to clinch a seat-sharing deal between the Congress and Trinamool Congress would not have any impact on the alliance in the next year's Assembly elections.
