Given the inflation, the hike will burn a hole in the common man's pocket and Banerjee is unhappy about the decision of the UPA government.

As the second largest partner in the UPA government, she is likely to take a strong step regarding this, said party sources.

She has asked all her parliamentarians to attend the emergency meeting, which is to be held at the Trinamool Bhawan on Friday.

In the past, Banerjee has repeatedly protested against the hike in the price of petro products, which leads to a price hike of all essential items.

"Food inflation, all-round inflation is at an all time high nationwide, the common people are suffering," said a senior Trinamool parliamentarian who is close to Banerjee.

"Our leader is unhappy about the repeated hike in the price of petroleum products."

Some leaders of the party, however, are also miffed that the UPA government never consults them before taking such steps.
