The police said that some members of the crowed threw bricks at them and that initiated the problem.

The uproar began after the Trinamool chief started addressing the audience. According to the police, some people from the crowd tried to go too close to the stage, which the police resisted. The crowd became agitated and when the police requested the people to control themselves they started pelting bricks at them.

Finally, the police had to resort to a mild lathicharge to quell them. The situation turned so grave that Banerjee stopped her speech and stepped down from the dais.

She finally rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Banerjee said CPI(M) had sent its people to disrupt her rally. The CPI(M), however, rubbished the allegation.

In every speech, Banerjee came down heavily on Deb. Notably, the Trinamool Congress is expecting maximum seats. Out of 33 seats in North 24-Parganas, it is contesting for 32 seats and the Congress is fighting for one seat.
