Even as Anil Ambani of Reliance Industries once expressed interest in setting up a film studio in West Bengal and a proposal given to superstar Shah Rukh Khan to set one up, there was no plan to set up a film city in the state, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said.

Stating that Anil Ambani had once expressed interest in setting up a film studio here, the chief minister told the assembly, he also had proposed to Shah Rukh Khan to set up one as the state lacked major facilities in this area when the actor met him recently for setting up a cricket academy.

King Khan, however, did not make any commitment and only assured him of looking into the proposal, he said during question hour.

He said that no corporate house was interested in investing in the film industry because of uncertain returns.

Replying to a question of the Congress Chief Whip Manas Bhuniya, Bhattacharjee said the state government was looking for Expression of Interest (EoI) for revival of the Technicians Studio to make it as competitive as those in Mumbai and Chennai.

A film archive with a rare collection has also been set up at the Radha Studio in Kolkata for the benefit of the present generation of filmmakers, he said.
