"An inquiry should be made to end the stalemate in the university since the teaching and non-teaching staff are all demanding it," she told reporters in Kolkata before leaving for Delhi.

Banerjee said she had a talk with Union Human Resources Development minister Kapil Sibal regarding the stalemate in the university.

The teaching and non-teaching staff were demanding a CBI inquiry into the alleged corruption charges against university vice-chancellor Rajatkanta Ray and had been on a cease-work from last Friday.

State Congress working president Subrata Mukherjee who visited Santiniketan on Sunday said he fully supported the university's agitating staff who have been demanding Ray's removal "for his malpractices".

Mukherjee said he would inform Sibal and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee about the VC's alleged misdeeds.
