Fifty-eight days after a speeding luxury SUV knocked down and killed a young IAF corporal on Red Road, the police on Thursday filed a charge-sheet against the main accused, Sambia Sohrab, charging him with murder. In the early hours of January 13, Air Force corporal Abhimanyu Gaud was killed by a speeding Audi. He was rehearsing for the Republic Day parade on Red Road with others. The guilty driver dumped the car some distance away and fled the accident site. Primary investigations revealed that the vehicle belonged to Sambia, the youngest son of former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Mohammed Sohrab.

“We have submitted the charge-sheet on Thursday naming Sambia Sohrab, Mohammed Sohrab, Jonny and Sonu, alias Shahnawaz Khan. Investigations revealed that Sambia was driving the car at the time of the accident and we have charged him with murder. The rest three have been charged with criminal conspiracy for helping him to flee,” said a senior Kolkata Police officer.

“The 300-page charge-sheet contains name of 82 witnesses. Most of them are men in uniform — police officials and army officers. Even during the TI parade they identified Sambia as the driver of the Audi that knocked down Gaud,” a police officer said.
