"We are not against industrialisation in the state, but we want the state government to give back 400 acres of land to the unwilling farmers," she told representatives of chambers of commerce.

Her assertion on the return of the lands to the farmers came a day after she agreed to hold talks with the West bengal government on the Singur tangle. The talks are slated for Wednesday in Kolkata.

Banerjee said Tata Motors would require only 650 acres to build the factory but had acquired 997.11 acres.

She requested the auto major to return the extra land, which the company has set aside for building ancillary units.
