"Samajwadi Party will try to forge a good relationship with various parties including the Left, BJD and TDP which are opposed to the Congress," said general secretary Kiranmoy Nanda.

Reminded that the SP was providing outside support to the Congress-led UPA and had bailed it out of sticky situations earlier, he said, "Our support is issue based. We have differences with the government on several issues. We are opposed to the promotion of the quota bill," Nanda, a party member of Parliament (MP) who was the minister for fisheries in the previous Left Front government, said.

He said that the party would hold its two-day national executive committee meeting in Kolkata from September 12 to discuss a host of national issues.

Top leaders including party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav would attend the meet.

To a question, he said that Akhilesh Yadav might meet West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

"It will depend on mutual convenience about the time," he said.
