"Most babies were below the age of six months. Most died due to infection and a few because they came in a very critical condition," said Dilip Kumar Paul, superintendent of the state-run BC Roy Children's Hospital in Kolkata.

The victims' families blamed doctors for negligence.

Earlier this year, 18 babies died at the same hospital. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered a probe, after which the doctors were given a clean chit.
