Writer's women employees join protest bandwagon

Women employees at the state secretariat, Writers’ Buildings, put up a demonstration against growing cases of rape and atrocities against women in the state.

Women employees at the state secretariat, Writers’ Buildings, put up a demonstration against growing cases of rape and atrocities against women in the state.The agitating group of women employees demanded to submit a memorandum to chief minister Mamata Banerjee by personally visiting her to voice their concern, which was declined.

Among the charter of demands were exemplary punishment against all perpetrators of rape and murder including the one at Barasat, ensure free and secured movement of women in the state, ban all porn on mobiles and internet, immediate banning of advertisement showcasing women’s body in obscene manner, closedown of all massage parlours and resorts, adequate preventive measures against women and child trafficking and prevention of rape of women by military and para-military forces.

Rupasree Sarkar, PA from the finance department leading the agitation, alleged, “Rape incidents by para-military forces are increasing in Jangalmahal. From villages to cities rape and murder cases are growing in uncontrolled numbers in Bengal and government is maintaining an indifferent attitude and failed to take adequate measures.”

The police, however, did not allow the agitating group to enter the protected area at Writers’ Buildings.
