In today’s fast-paced world, quality sleep is being compromised, which is impacting overall quality of life. While much of the focus is often on how many hours we sleep, what we do in the time leading up to bedtime also has a meaningful impact. When we sleep well, the brain is able to reset, restore, and prepare for the next day, helping us think clearly, manage stress better, and maintain emotional balance. However, modern lifestyles often disrupt these natural patterns, making it harder for the mind to slow down at the end of the day.

1. Head massage
Dr Vaishali Gode, EVP, R and D, Product Development (Nourishment) and Packaging, Marico Limited, and Hair Expert, Parachute Advansed recommends an unhurried head massage to end the day on a calming note. She highlights that our scalp contains a dense network of blood vessels and nerve endings, making it highly responsive to touch and stimulation. When hair oil is applied and gently massaged into the scalp, it stimulates blood circulation and helps to relax. Dr Vaishali said, “From a physiological perspective, this helps the body unwind and gradually shift into a state of rest. The gentle pressure enhances blood flow and oxygen supply to the scalp, improving the delivery of essential nutrients to hair follicles.”
This ritual doesn’t require a long session; even 10–20 minutes in the evening can be deeply meaningful when practiced consistently. The goal is not intensity, but regularity and gentleness, an unhurried moment of care that invites both mind and body to slow down.

2. Journaling

3. Hot shower
From chasing deadlines to running to catch the metros, our bodies undergo extreme stress throughout the day. Taking a hot shower at the end of the day before going to bed relaxes the nerves and promotes better sleep.
4. Unplug from screens
Considering the digital age, we are all surrounded by screens all day round. But it’s important to understand when to step away from screens to keep up with our health. To ensure good sleep, one must unplug from the screen at least 30 minutes before going to bed, as blue light inhibits melatonin production.
5. No caffeine or alcohol
Caffeine is undoubtedly one of the addictive substances that inhibits sleep, and so is alcohol. It is recommended not to consume coffee or alcohol after 5 pm to ensure better sleep and overall health.
